This workshop, directed by artist John Torreano, will utilize concepts from his recent book Drawing By Seeing. The morning sessions are group directed consisting of exercises designed to confront the difference between seeing for everyday use (customary perception) and seeing for the purpose of drawing (aesthetic perception.) He describes the exercise portion of the workshop as a form of “calaesthetics.” “…as we are exercising our kinaesthetic muscles.” For these periods students will work directly from traditional genre: live figure, still life and landscape.
The afternoon sessions will be individually directed wherein students try to apply ideas developed from the morning sessions to their own work as artists. A number of slide discussions about drawing and painting will be included.
Drawing – ASF 302 01/CRN 10641 – $499 course fee. No refunds after July 24.
