This Sunday, May 15th, the Santa Fe Century is happening. This 20 year old event is a fun bicycle ride for people all over the Southwest and tours some of Santa Fe’s most beautiful surrounding areas. Lots of wind always accompanies the ride–so visitors be ready! The pit stops have plentiful food, water and gatorade. The funnest pit stop is the one in Galisteo. It is the one pit stop that facilitates participants in the 50, 75 and 100 mile rides. That means that people from all bicycling levels get to hang for a few minutes, grab some grub, and carry on with their ride.
This year I got involved trying to get a 5 feet safe passing of bikes law passed by the State of New Mexico. With the help of Senator Peter Wirth, and Retired Judge Lynn Pickard, we got the bill passed through the House and the Senate only to be vetoed by the Governor. Really a sad outcome to a whole lot of work by hundreds of people across the state.

The sign to “Give Bikes 5 Feet. Thanks!” was created by myself 5 years ago, and financially possible to create this year with help from the PedalQueens and Bike Santa Fe. If you are interested in doing a run of the signs in your area, call me, Elizabeth, at

Artists for Hire is the business I own. We do all kinds of fun things using art, including; bicycle advocacy, art tours with a bike, and bike and art-making tours. The tours are fun and tailored to the needs of the participants. For instance; you could get a tour of Contemporary art or Southwestern art in Santa Fe; or take a road bike ride that pauses occasionally for art making sessions in the beautiful land of Santa Fe. I also know some great mountain biking places that combine art with riding very easily. When you call, I can set up something with you to make the time in Santa Fe more worth while.
If you tell me that you are coming for the Santa Fe Century, I will give you a 10% discount on whatever art adventure you want to create, (this includes people who are with you and who are not doing the ride.)
Have a great ride! See you then!
