This intensive, in-depth, five-day course will cover the history, techniques and reasons for making monotype prints. Each all-day session will be divided between demonstrations and supervised work time. Updated methods for a wide variety of traditional techniques will be presented along with new experimental directions. The purpose of the class is not to produce instant masterpieces, but rather for each student to become familiar and comfortable with a wide variety of monotype techniques.

- A Safer, Greener Etching Method Aug. 1, 3 days.
Etching aluminum with copper sulfate is a safer, easier and cheaper alternative to traditional copper and zinc etching in acid. It even aquatints itself! Students will learn to prepare the etching bath, ground their plates with acrylic floor polish, transfer a drawing to the plate and scribe their design through the ground. Aquatinting methods will be demonstrated and practiced– no rosin, no spraying, no nothing!
