A WEALTH OF CREATIVE EXPERIENCES
BY TOM MAGUIRE
Clay pottery is one of the earliest art forms found in the deserted villages surrounding Santa Fe. The functional pieces are now considered priceless links to the city’s history and are an avenue for understanding Santa Fe’s beginnings. Internationally known porcelain artist and teacher Heidi Loewen taught the fundamentals of turning clay into art in her sunny Santa Fe studio in a well-received porcelain workshop. Micaceous clay is prized for the sparkling pottery created from it and has a long history of use by New Mexico’s Pueblo artists. La Morena Art Works instructors helped participants create micaceous vessels of their own. Sculptor Lisa Gordon led participants on an outing to Tesuque Glassworks and Shidoni Foundry for a glassblowing demonstration, sculpting class, and foundry tour.
