In this workshop, students construct two kinds of books. The first is an Ethiopian structure with exposed sewing. There is minimal gluing involved, and the whole book is tied together with a thread. The second is a soft leather book with multiple signatures sewn directly on the spine. Both are great for the bookmaker who dislikes tons of glue. They are easy to do at home and make terrific holiday gifts. Mita Saldaña is owner of “Against the Grain,” a book arts and conservation studio in Tijeras.
