This sculpture workshop, led by renowned stone sculptor’s Candyce Garrett and Alexandra Morosco, is designed to help beginning to professional sculptors develop their skills working with Alabaster, Limestone, Marble, and Granite.
Sixteen million years ago the Jemez Mountains began a series of volcanic eruptions. Today, in the Abiquiu area, that range is 11,561 feet high. As one moves through this highly diversified landscape, traveling westward form Abiquiu to the Piedra Lumbre (the Valley of the Shinning Stone) and beyond to Christ In The Desert Monastery, one becomes aware of the massive earth forces that created this environment. From high desert multi-colored landforms bounded by mountains, to deep cut gorges where major rivers and arroyos flow, this is a place where the spirit of the stone can speak to you from within.
The Workshop
With hammer and chisel, grinders and blades, a personal dialogue will develop between the sculptor and the stone. As one enters toward its center, form and shape start to emerge, yielding a personal reflection of ones creative being. With this dialogue between the two, forms of personal creation emerge.
Be prepared for your body and soul to travel to places where the unknown resides, bringing out heart-felt reflections from within. Your guide on this personal journey into stone will be Candyce Garrett.
