Create rich dimensional surfaces as layers are built up with the mediums and media. Any theme or subject matter can be explored or developed on paper or other surfaces such as canvas or wood. The goal of the class is to experiment with ideas through layers of information that will lead to discovery and surprise.
Encaustic is a process of using melted beeswax mixed with Damar resin (for hardening) and pigments to create a very versatile medium. Come and learn the basics of this fascinating process.You’ll learn how to apply wax to a wooden panel and how to build your image, even incorporating collage techniques.
Participants will learn how common household chemicals are used to prepare all fibers (except polyester) to accept and retain the desired colors. Participants will take away knowledge of how to hand paint their own yarn, roving and warps for any future dye project.
Participants will create three paintings or more a day in the subject matter of their choice. Other topics will include under-painting techniques, the joys of a limited palette, composition & tips for critiquing your own work.
