Kevin Snipes leads this hands-on workshop which will explore ceramic decorative and narrative surface design. The workshop’s primary focus will be experimental drawing on porcelain greenware tiles employing mishima (color inlay) and sgraffito techniques using slips and underglazes. Kevin will demonstrate his use of combined methods to produce intricate layered surfaces, and will lead discussions on formal design, composition and meaning. Participation in this workshop does not require particular drawing skills so much as a willingness to fearlessly express oneself through doodling.
Kevin received his BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 1994 and his MFA in ceramics from the University of Florida in 2003. He exhibits his work internationally and leads workshops at ceramic centers and universities from coast to coast. He currently lives and works in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
