The extruder is a tool that can be used alone or in conjunction with other clay forming techniques to produce structural and decorative elements, sculptural forms, and functional tableware. This workshop will cover the fundamentals of creating dies for the extruder. Participants will design and create simple dies for solid extrusions as well as complex dies for extruding hollow forms.
Nathan Craven is from Ogden, Utah. He earned his BFA in ceramics from Weber State University in 2005 and received an MFA in ceramics from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2008. Nathan’s awe inspiring installations are made from hundreds, sometimes thousands, of extruded parts which he makes from self-designed extruder dies.
