Like snowflakes, each of us has a unique existence that cannot be repeated. Who are we? Art is one of the roads that takes us to those answers.
This workshop intends that students learn about the history and different approaches of the self-portrait. And that way they will discover themselves through art. At the same time the students are going to learn and develop drawing and painting techniques using
pencil, pastel, and acrylic paint on paper and canvas. Each student will explore their personality and physical appearance developing a series of sketches and completing one finished work of art.
Pablo Perea, an artist from Cuba, lives in Santa Fe, NM with his wife Allison. Pablo has been a professional artist for more than 18 years with a body of work of more than 3000 portraits. Born in 1970, Guines, La Habana, Cuba. Pablo Perea grew up in Guines, Cuba, just outside of Havana. He graduated 1995 from University of Havana with a degree in Medicine. He worked for several years as a general
practitioner before turning solely to art in 1996. Pablo Perea is a self-taught artist. Among his recent accomplishments is a 10′ x 15′ mural that served as the backdrop for the Apple Tree Theatre production of Cuban playwright Nilo Cruz’s Two Sisters and a Piano, for which Pablo was nominated for a Jeff Award for Special Achievement in Theatre.
“It’s hard to be an artist in Cuba because everybody is an artist. Everybody paints, everybody dances and everybody is a musician. Everyone does something about creation, the heart there is beating. But I had to be a painter. It’s part of who I am.” Pablo Perea
