Abstracting the Landscape: A Workshop with Mickey Bond / Starts July 9th, 2012

All landscapes, even highly realistic ones, capture only a tiny portion of nature’s panorama of detail. Abstract artists often exploit this notion by purposefully narrowing their focus to fewer subjects seen in a new way. In this 3- day hands-on intensive we’ll explore the world of abstract landscape while learning the layering and “mixing” capabilities of banana,  mango and mulberry tree fiber paper. We’ll practice under-painting techniques, mapping strategies, uses of a limited palette, the fun of triangulated compositions, evocative brushwork, gestural use of media and more. Participants will create several landscapes a day and learn valuable critiquing skills for furthering their own work.

When: (3 days) July 9, 10 & 11 2012.

Time: 10 am – 4 pm.

Cost: $400 (torn tree-fiber paper provided). Artists bring their own lunch, canvas and painting media.
