Coptic Stitch Binding With a Window / July 2st, 2012
This ancient binding dates back to the 4th century. Coptic books open to lay flat and have multiple sections. The chain-like pattern sewn across the exposed spine also attaches the hard covers to the book block. This is a perfect binding for a journal. We will cut a window into the front cover where you can insert a 2-D piece of artwork to decorate your handmade book. Mita Saldaña, a book binder in Tijeras, runs the Against the Grain Bindery.
Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., July 21, 1 day.
