Spend the day making paper, washi, from kozo, the bark of the paper mulberry. For centuries kozo has been a highly regarded Asian fiber used in the paper arts. We will begin the day with a short walk collecting plant material that will be added to the pulp fiber to create interesting textural effects in the paper. Wabi-sabi, the quintessential Japanese aesthetic, the beauty of things modest and humble, is the philosophical thread that weaves through our creative process.
