Studio Arts:
Drawing, Beginners to Advanced with Maureen O’Brien
Sept 1-2, 2012 Sat & Sun
This intensive workshop will follow the form and spirit of The New Studio School, based on the teachings of Hans Hoffman. We will focus on the nature of space, picture plane, tension, and movement. Students will learn to “see” form & space as an interplay of equals.“Form is emptiness. Emptiness is form.” We will release ourselves from static labels and enter into a vibrant world of living movement. Drawing intensely for four days evolves the ability to see and create beyond our cherished perceptions. Old limitations dissolve, new vision arises. Drawing classes can include working with color: paint and pastels. The class itself will be an unfolding work of art following the creative impulses of those participating.
Maureen O’Brien Redstone has taught for art and yoga for over 30 years in NYC and New Mexico. She is the founding Art Director of The Rio Gallinas Charter School for Art and Ecology in Las Vegas, NM. Maureen O’Brien studied at The New York Studio School in New York City. The Studio School is well known for devotion to drawing as the basis of all fine art. Her master drawing teacher was the late Nicolas Carone, who taught the way to imbue drawing with the reality of spirit. She teaches this class with great gratitude for Nick’s amazing awareness of the magic of drawing. Maureen is a painter, carver, writer, and yoga practitioner. She lives outside of Santa Fe with her animals.
This workshop will be held at the Tarnoff Art Center located in Rowe New Mexico. Students will have full access to the studio facility while attending the workshop.
