If you have been curious about the Brazilian martial art game capoeira and are physically fit, this is your chance to try it out. Immerse yourself in one week of intensive learning and playing together. Capoeira Regional in the mornings, Angola in the evenings. In between playing music, discussions, movies, celebration. Beginners welcome.
We are excited to bring Joe Seitz (Instructor Marola) from Northampton MA. Play the fast “Regional” style with him every morning in the park. Under his guidance you can also make your own berimbau, the African instrument played with capoeira, to take home after the week. At midday stretch out some of the aches and pains from training with yoga teacher Vanessa Serotta. She will help people explore the foundations that support and deepen their capoeira practice.
The evening sessions will be led by Santa Fe instructor Pete Jackson. Pete is known for the individual attention and caring he gives to his students. His personal philosophy emphasizes the playful aspects of the artform. Learn the traditional style of playing capoeira, also called “Angola”, together with its rich history as a way for Brazilian slaves to fight for their freedom.
