The Tony Hillerman Writer’s conference began in 2004 as a way to honor Hillerman, New Mexico’s prize-winning mystery writer. This year’s conference includes an all-day workshop for authors on pacing their work, and a day on the craft of writing, and a day on the business of writing. Other highlights include a session on publishing e-books, bringing a book to the screen, and a “flash” critique from a literary agent.
The Tony Hillerman Writers Conference, November 8–10 in Santa Fe, is a three-day event devoted to the art and craft of writing. You’ll learn how to write better and gain insight into the business of writing from the masters. Our 2012 faculty includes New York Times best selling author and thriller expert David Morrell, Spur Award winner Johnny Boggs, mystery writers Richard E. Peck and Michael Orenduff, much-praised novelist Jo-Ann Mapson; published mystery novelist and humor writer Steve Brewer, non-fiction authors Bill O’Hanlon and James McGrath Morris. Other faculty members include author Judith Ryan Hendricks, editors Peter Joseph and Mark Bryant and filmmaker Chris Eyre, creator of the Tony Hillerman Skinwalkers and Thief of Time movies. Our hosting hotel is the beautiful Hotel Santa Fe, Santa Fe, N.M., just steps away from the dynamic Railyard district with its shops and restaurants. And don’t forget the (optional) critique sessions with Ellen Kleiner of Blessingway Author Services. You can find a complete schedule here.
