Studio Arts: Painting & Drawing / Beginners to Advanced with Laura Tarnoff / September 17-21, 2012
Drawing and painting are the foundation skills of making art. This workshop will provide a range of experiences in the basic mediums of charcoal, pencil, chalk pastels, oil pastels and acrylic paint, for for students of all levels.
Learn a variety of approaches to drawing and painting as a way to practice and expand your skills. Work primarily from demonstrations, observation and exercises to learn techniques such as shading, value, light, contour and cross-hatching, as well as the basics of shape, color, and composition. This workshop is designed to help you build confidence and work toward developing your own style. There will also be demonstrations to cover materials, painting approaches, color mixing, and color theory, as well as providing inspiration for individual expression. Beginners: learn the basics through introductory assignments. Intermediate and advanced students: develop your own style and themes in a supportive studio atmosphere.
Laura Tarnoff was born in Chicago, Illinois, where at an early age, her Grandfather helped foster an appreciation and love for art. After high school, she went on to study at the American Academy of Art in Chicago where she earned a Degree in Illustration and Graphic Design. Soon after, she moved with her family to the Black Hills of South Dakota, where she continued at Black Hills State University earning a degree in Art Education. After teaching art in Colorado, the Black Hills in South Dakota, and Seattle, Washington, Laura has now settled in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where she is working on her art and is also The co-founder, Executive Director, Education Director and Lead Studio Art Instructor at The Tarnoff Art Center. The center’s most active project to date is it’s PAACE project, (Pecos Area Arts Collaboration Endeavor), where the center brings local youth to the center for high level studio arts classes in partnership with the local school district.

Cost: $450.00 / All materials included. (if desired we have 24 x36 stretched canvases at $15 each)
This workshop will be held at the Tarnoff Art Center located in Rowe New Mexico. Students will have full access to the studio facility while attending the workshop. Suggestions can be made for reasonable lodging; Santa Fe has plenty of rooms available although the city is about 20 minutes away. The daily schedule will consist of instruction from 9:00-12:00, lunch from 12:00-12:30 and more art making 12:30-3:00.
