COLCHA EMBROIDERY with Beatrice Maestas Sandoval / November 3, 2012

Join us at EVFAC to learn the basic colcha stitch and absorb the history of this uniquely New Mexican fiber art tradition from one of its master practitioners. Sabanilla labrada, or wool-on-wool colcha embroidery work, is distinct because it may be one of the few textiles developed in New Mexico during the Spanish colonial period. Yarns for class are supplied, and you can purchase colcha yarn and sabanilla for a future project at EVFAC.
