Win a $500 Workshop Giveaway!
Greetings from Santa Fe Creative Tourism! We’re already halfway through February, which means spring is just around the corner and, better yet, DIY Santa Fe: A Creative Tourism Journey is just two weeks away! While we’re proud to say you can find a wide range of offerings from Santa Fe Creative Tourism artists pretty much any time, our annual March event packs a year’s worth of workshops into just 31 days, the most diverse and comprehensive schedule of classes you could ever hope to find. Plus, you’ll find deals on accommodations from our partner hotels and lodgings, so you can plan your whole visit right here at santafecreativetourism.org.
Also, from now through the end of March, don’t miss out on a chance to WIN A $500 WORKSHOP GIVEAWAY! Simply answer the trivia question (correctly!) at the link above to qualify. Winner will be chosen at random from all qualifying entries. Contest ends March 31, 2015, at 5pm, and prize will be awarded on April 6, 2015 at 5pm.
Here’s a peek at what’s in store for DIY Santa Fe’s first week. Be sure to check the calendar for full listings:
- Sunday, March 1: Watercolor Designed for You, with Dawn Davis
Join award-winning watercolor artist and teacher Dawn Davis in this day-long painting workshop custom built around your personal experience, abilities, and interests. Students will learn to embrace the “happy accidents” of creating art while incorporating intuitive painting techniques as well as receiving technical watercolor instruction.
- Monday, March 2: Drawing is for Everyone, with Laura Orchard
Everyone draws, and the more we accept it as our second nature, (and practice, practice, practice), the more fun it becomes! Using private and small group classes, Laura will tailor her observational drawing and sketchbook classes to your level of expertise and provide guidance to help you achieve your authentic drawing style. You will learn to use your small sketchbook to hone your skills for longer drawing sessions and more complex subject matter.
- Tuesday, March 3: Encaustic for Photographers, with Angel Wynn
Whether you use a smart phone, point-and-shoot or professional camera to take your photos, you will enjoy learning to use the ancient encaustic process to enhance them. This fun-filled workshop will provide you with a variety of techniques you can use to apply layers of translucent and tinted beeswax to your images to turn them into creative works of art.
- Wednesday, March 4: Stoneware Pottery, with Theo Helmstadter
An experienced teacher & full-time studio potter, Theo teaches on an individualized basis in his studio. Often, students have some experience with clay already – but beginners are welcome too. A two-hour session at the studio usually starts with a discussion of what you’d like to explore – the wheel? hand-building? throwing & altering? Arrangements can be made to glaze, fire, & ship work you produce during the session.
- Thursday, March 5: Glass Blowing Experience, with Prairie Dog Glass
Are you interested in trying glass blowing? Come get a hands-on experience in the art of glass blowing with one of our instructors. These experiences are a quick introduction to glass blowing; they are fun and make wonderful gifts for loved ones and friends. The pieces you create will be ready for pick-up within 24-48 hours of your event or can be shipped to you (at your expense). With the help of an instructor, you will be able to make a minimum of three pieces of hand-blown glass during your one-hour session.
- Friday, March 6: Family Clay Play, with Ginny Zipperer
Take a break from the usual sightseeing and shopping and bring your family to Ginny’s studio for a clay play date. Work in a spacious studio or in the shady back yard. Adults and children alike will lose themselves in the magic of working with clay. As an experienced instructor, Ginny can teach basic techniques to students of all ages. Your family can work together to build a mural or sculpture or each of you can create your own Santa Fe souvenir.
- Saturday, March 7: Yoga as the Union of Shiva & Shakti, with Shibana Singh
Join Shibana in reaching an expanded state of consciousness, drawing from experiences of the physical body together through rhythmic asana, music, mantra, and meditation.
All of this and much, much more coming next month. Don’t miss out on a chance to participate in this one-of-a-kind celebration of Santa Fe’s world-class artists and unique creative spirit. We hope to see you in March!
