“Experimental Drawing and Mixed Media” with Diane G. Rolnick
This is an exciting multi -media class that co-mingles drawing media (graphite, ink, markers, collage) and acrylic paint with layering techniques utilizing the Golden’s acrylic mediums of Absorbent Ground, Gel Medium and Acrylic Ground for Pastel’s. Various possibilities for building up layers include collaging photos, older drawings or material to develop a rich dimensional surface that combines with drawing mediums, paint, and the acrylic mediums. Contemporary artists have been combining drawing and painting techniques for many years now. The goal of the class is to experiment with ideas through layers of information left by the “tracks” of previous layers. Any theme or subject matter can be developed through these techniques. Experimentation is a wonderful method of learning through discovery and surprise.
Notes: I teach painting, drawing, mixed-media with all types of subject matter that might include, personal mark-making/abstraction, landscape, portrait/figure, narrative, and fragmented narrative. Digital media can be an integral part of any workshop.
I have 2 degrees from Rhode Island School of Design, a BFA in Painting and a Masters. I currently teach painting and drawing at the University of New Mexico in Santa Fe and Santa Fe Community College.
