Intensive Oil Portrait & Figurative Studio Class

This intensive oil portrait & figurative studio class will concentrate on the magical qualities of oil portrait at one single session. The purpose of this class is to study the building stages of creating a portrait painting from life. At the beginning stage, students will learn monochromatic approach to capture the gesture and likeness of the model. Then, flesh tones are added to develop a fuller value range and temperatures for the illusion of light on form.

Color, along with flesh color mixing technique, is woven into this process entering the middle stages of the painting and working towards completion. In addition, students will learn the use of edges, anatomy, and the concept of larger-to-smaller relationships for high quality of portrait painting.

Students can have special opportunities of exhibition at Gary Kim Fine Art Gallery after completing 3 consecutive classes and members of each workshop will be invited to the regular gallery exhibitions.

Weekend Figure Drawing Open Workshop (None-Instructional)

Ongoing, uninstructed life drawing workshops in the Gary Kim Fine Art Gallery in Santa Fe. The workshops take place every Saturday and Sunday evenings from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. The poses are two minutes and five minutes for the first hour, and then twenty-five minutes each for the last two hours. The cost is $15 on a pay as you go basis, reservation is necessary. The Gary Kim Fine Art Gallery & Studio is located one block away from historic downtown Plaza and right across from famous hotel, Inn and Spa at Loretto.

Clay Painting is as close to finger painting as you can get! It is a process that is comfortable for both beginners and experienced artists and all create and leave with successful works of art in hand. A great way to experience art without having to be experienced! For families with children over 12, this is a great opportunity to come and create together. Most attendees will create 3 – 4, 16″ x 20″ paintings in a one day workshop. For those who would like to master the process a 3 day workshop is advised.

Painting & Drawing Santa Fe: Capture your Santa Fe experience in an original work of art – created by you! All levels of experience, from beginner to seasoned artist, are welcome to participate in a half day painting and drawing workshop. I supply the materials, Santa Fe’s vistas provide the inspiration, and the workshop is spent expanding the boundaries of your creativity.

Accomplished landscape painter and arts educator Erica Elliott will work with you to create a personal work of art work that reflects your experience of Santa Fe. The focus is on the Santa Fe landscape, it color palette and the light. Studio sessions allow you to work from your own photographs while outdoor sessions are set comfortably at local points of interest. Small groups, and individual sessions are available and run 3 hours in length. All art materials are supplied with reservation, or you may bring your own.

Learn Photoshop: Learn tips and trick of using Photoshop like a pro. Individual or small group sessions of 3 hours will give you exposure to color correct existing images to using layers to composite original works of art. Inquire about technology requirements.
