Spend a morning or afternoon experiencing the techniques, materials, and aesthetics of the art of sumi-e with sumi master William Preston at his Pojoaque studio and home, twenty minutes north of Santa Fe. No previous experience is required; all needed materials are provided. Learn the techniques that make sumi-e so appealing or explore Oriental brushwork to push your traditional watercolor paintings beyond the ordinary. Hands-on painting and practice with sensai William Preston will expand your artistic horizons. Be surprised by what you will learn and accomplish!

Classes are by appointment, and gift certificates are available. Call the artist to discuss your needs and desires. An encounter with a master of the art of sumi-e and the southwest landscape is a not-to-be-missed, authentic experience during your stay in Santa Fe. Classes are limited to two students. Many students have said it was the high-point of their visit.
William is an experienced teacher who draws on 60 years as a landscape painter in watercolor, then oil, and now sumi-e to his classes, with 30 years of that painting the New Mexico landscape. His biography and more images may be found on his website.
