Kakishibu is a traditional natural dye from Japan made from the fermented juice of unripe persimmons. This type of dyeing requires no mordants, chemicals, boiling water or fussy measurements. Kakishibu is the most user-friendly of dyes! We’ll explore kakishibu’s unique properties using textiles and techniques such as sun-patterning, shibori and maybe even a little katazome (paste resist).
